Aaron Rodgers rips Bears in podcast taping as Steelers rumors swirl
Aaron Rodgers‘ never-ending press tour continued to generate headlines this weekend, when the former Green Bay Packers quarterback took multiple shots at the Chicago Bears.
“I love Chicago,” Rodgers said Friday at a live YNK Podcast taping in Austin, Texas. “Way more than they love me. It’s been a great relationship, all one way.”
A young fan asked Rodgers, who is a free agent after the New York Jets released him in March, if he’d ever consider signing with the Bears.
“No, but I believe there is a team that might play in Chicago this year, on a road trip,” Rodgers said. “I don’t know, I’m not sure. I got to check it out.”
Many people have taken that cryptic statement to mean Rodgers will sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers, who will visit Soldier Field on Nov. 23. However, no deal has come to fruition, and the Steelers picked ex-Ohio State quarterback Will Howard in the sixth round of the NFL draft last month.
If Rodgers doesn’t sign with the Steelers, their other QB options would be Mason Rudolph (29 NFL career games) and Skylar Thompson (10 NFL career games).
Rodgers wasn’t done sharing his thoughts on the Bears, though. Responding to a Bears fan who asked him to retire and take up golf, Rodgers decided to turn his attention toward new head coach Ben Johnson.
“The best thing about Bears fans, ever year [they say] ‘This is our year! This is our year! We added this guy and that guy. And we got a new coach from Detroit, oooh man, look out!’ ” Rodgers said in a mocking tone. “What does every coach that signs with the Bears say? ‘We got to beat the Packers’. The Packers don’t give a s–t!”
Rodgers has dominated the Bears throughout his career, with a 24-5 record against them, so it’s understandable that Chicago fans would hope to see him retire rather than lace them up for 21st NFL season.
