Ben Johnson defines what success looks like in first season with Bears

3 weeks agoTony Andracki

The Bears got their man – Ben Johnson went from the hottest candidate on the market to the team’s new head coach.

So now that means Bears fans should block out January 2026 for a deep playoff run, right?

While that’s certainly possible, it’s also putting the cart before the horse a bit.

Progress isn’t always linear. Just because the Bears have synced up the coach they want with a franchise quarterback (Caleb Williams) and some other strong elements on the roster doesn’t mean the team is destined for the playoffs.

But regardless of the Bears’ record in 2025, Johnson still sees a clear pathway toward immediate success in Chicago.

Johnson joined FS1’s Breakfast Ball Thursday and was asked how he defines success in his first season with the Bears.

“It’s not wins or losses this year,” Johnson said. “It’s gonna be all about establishing our culture here in the locker room. I already talked about accountability and integrity.

“We need to define what a Chicago Bear looks like – both on and off the field. And as long as we take care of that, the results will speak for themselves.”

A few Bears players – including Williams – attended Johnson’s introductory press conference Wednesday and the new head coach spoke directly to the group:

“Get comfortable being uncomfortable,” he said to the Bears players. “The bar has been set higher than it’s ever been set before. The only way for this team – and for you as individual players – to reach your potential is to be pushed and be challenged and that’s exactly what I and my staff plan on doing.”
