Brianna Turner taking on mentorship role for Sky rookies
The Chicago Sky gained forward Brianna Turner as part of the Kahleah Copper trade over to the Phoenix Mercury back in February, joining a new team for the first time in her WNBA career.
“I was really excited,” Turner said on Media Day. “The new staff here, almost a brand new team. I played with a couple players in college, but other than that, it was a brand new team. I was really excited for the opportunity and a change, a new chapter.”
Since coming over to Chicago, the 6-year WNBA veteran has taken on a mentorship role off the court of embracing the rookies in Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso.
“Obviously, this rookie class has a lot of eyes on them, but I really try to emphasize to enjoy the moment,” Turner said. “Obviously people are going to talk on social media, talk online, say whatever they have to say, but at the end of the day, I just want to make sure I have their back offline to make sure I am here when the tweets and instagrams aren’t. Just making sure they have a safe space off of social media.”
