Andy Reid heaps high praise on new Bears coach Ben Johnson

As the NFL season concluded in Super Bowl LIX, the Philadelphia Eagles put together a dominant performance over the Kansas City Chiefs with a 40-22 win in New Orleans.

Chiefs coach Andy Reid is now 3-3 in Super Bowls following the 18-point defeat to the Eagles.

Prior to the Super Bowl, Reid spoke to the media (including the Chicago Sun-Times) and brought up some of his biggest play-calling rivals throughout his career, including a defensive coordinator he faced off on Sunday in Vic Fangio.

“This guy we’re playing this week is a pretty good defensive coordinator,” Reid said. “I feel like I can’t get rid of him. It seems like every year, once or twice or three times, he’s there. He does a great job.”

Fangio followed suit as his Eagles defense applied pressure on Patrick Mahomes and recorded 6 sacks and 2 interceptions.

As Reid continued to discuss his coaching rivals, he also named a former NFL head coach and a young play-caller that was just offered his first NFL head coaching job – with the Bears.

“I always say Bill Belichick is probably the best coach I’ve had a chance to go against in my career as a head coach,” Reid said. “And then I’ve enjoyed watching the Lions this year and the job their offensive coordinator did there. He’s now the head coach in Chicago.”

Though Reid didn’t mention Ben Johnson by name, it was clear the admiration he has for the new Bears head coach.

Johnson has been one of the most creative offensive minds in the NFL and has drawn respect from those around the league.

The last time the Lions-Chiefs squared off was in 2023 when the Lions pulled off an upset win in Kansas City.
