Craig Kimbrel makes spring debut

4 years agoAndy Martinez

Cubs closer Craig Kimbrel made his spring training debut Wednesday, pitching an inning in relief of Tyler Chatwood.

Kimbrel struck out Joey Votto to begin the inning, then gave up a homer to Derek Dietrich before getting Shogo Akiyama to ground out. Kimbrel induced another groundball, but an error from David Bote allowed Tucker Barnhart to reach safely.

Kimbrel came back to strike out Philip Ervin on three straight pitches to end the inning.

The 31-year-old closer is entering his first full season with the Cubs.
