Cubs pitcher Shawn Armstrong shared an awesome story about his son’s new favorite team

6 days agoAndy Martinez

It’s been a whirlwind last month or so for new Cubs reliever Shawn Armstrong.

In that time, he’s been traded, designated for assignment and claimed — being a member of three different teams.

So you can forgive his 3-year-old, baseball-mad son, Declan Cutter, for mixing up who he should be rooting for.

“Was FaceTiming him this morning, still trying to get out of his head ‘Go Cardinals’ and say ‘Go Cubs’,” Armstrong told reporters on Sunday morning. “He’s a little confused at 3-year-old going from 3 different teams in a matter of four weeks, but he’s an avid baseball fan and all he was saying this morning was ‘I wanna go there. I wanna go there.’

“He loves baseball and he’s just excited to see Daddy play.”

Armstrong, 34, was activated by the Cubs on Saturday after being claimed off waivers from the Cardinals on Friday. He was acquired by the Cardinals at the trade deadline at the end of July in exchange for outfielder Dylan Carlson.

The veteran righty admitted his son’s middle name stemmed from his own pitching arsenal.

“Cutter, it definitely came from the pitch that got me to the big leagues,” Armstrong said.
