Cubs teaming up with Chicago artist Nikko Washington for Black History Month collection

February is Black History Month and the Cubs have partnered with Chicago artist Nikko Washington to honor the impact Ernie Banks and Buck O’Neil had on baseball and the organization.
“Baseball reflects America and in that reflection, there was also oppression and there was also separatism and there was also division,” Washington said in an interview with the Cubs recently. “I think it’s important people breaking those barriers are held up – people like Buck O’Neil, people like Ernie Banks. They both had this electricity about them; they both had this smile that you could tell people really loved them.”

The proceeds from his work will benefit The Bloc Chicago, a nonprofit that uses boxing to provide resources and opportunities to the city’s youth.
