Hand warmers and homer celebrations: Ian Happ mic’d up
As Part I of the Wintrust Crosstown Series came to a close last week, Cubs Productions mic’d up Ian Happ for an entertaining segment.
The outfielder battled the frigid conditions at Wrigley Field Wednesday evening — it was 51 degrees at first pitch and the temperature fell throughout the evening.
Happ reached base on a walk in the bottom of the 6th and as he settled in on the basepaths, he spoke with White Sox first baseman Gavin Sheets about the weather:
“We’ve played 1 game at home where I didn’t have hand warmers,” Happ said.
This was the Cubs’ 12th game at Wrigley Field and presumably the only game Happ didn’t need hand warmers was on April 23 when the weather was beautiful for the team’s 21-0 rout of the Pirates.
The mic’d up segment showed Happ interacting with fellow outfielders Jason Heyward and Seiya Suzuki, sharing hand warmers and joking that Suzuki had the best of the bunch.
Bleacher Jeff was also a central part of the video, as Happ shouted him out into the microphone and Jeff later made a nice catch on a Patrick Wisdom homer in left field:

The Cubs lost the game 4-3 but the mics caught some solid dugout celebrations from Happ when Wisdom and Nico Hoerner homered.
“That was so pretty,” Happ said of his former podcast partner’s home run. “That was attractive!”
