Jason Heyward on preparing for 2020 season
Cubs outfielder Jason Heyward joined Bruce Levine and host Cole Wright on Cubs 360 Daily to discuss how Heyward has been preparing for the upcoming season in 2020.
Heyward mentioned the difficulty of preparing physically and mentally for a season that is unsure of its beginning.
“I think simplicity has been the biggest thing through all of this,” Heyward said. “Just understanding what you really need and making the most of that. Also, the mental aspect of knowing that I need to keep a routine. Get up in the morning, work out or sometimes mix it up and be ready to do something different. I was in Arizona for the most part of this. I’m in Atlanta now with family but, I was out in Arizona. I also know that there was a chance that we might continue spring training out there in the 100-degree weather, so I was throwing some workouts in that.”
Bouncing back between Arizona and Atlanta, Heyward has managed to stay in touch with Ross and the coaching staff.
“Rossy has checked in with us weekly. He made sure that if we had any questions, he would answer them as best as he could and give us as much information he had at the time. Just really making most of the bonds that we have and that we formed over the years,” Heyward said.
Heyward later talked about being back home in Atlanta and spending time with his mother on Mother’s Day.
“I got to be here for Mother’s Day with my mom, my brother, my dad and spend that time. That’s something we haven’t done at all,” Heyward mentioned. “I don’t think the four of us have been in the house at the same time since I’ve been five. I think it was a new first.”
