Jon Lester’s parting gift to Chicago might go down as one of the most epic.

In 2020, after he hit free agency and with a murky future, the World Series hero famously picked up the tab at four different bars in Chicago for patrons as a way to say thank you to the fans.

It was a thoughtful and appreciative farewell gift.

“It was cool till I saw the receipts,” Lester quipped on the broadcast of Tuesday night’s Brewers-Cubs game.

Jokes aside, Lester was glad to do it — knowing how much it meant to restaurants who had struggled during the COVID-19 pandemic and showing a token of love to the fans that supported him throughout his time in Chicago.
