Kris Bryant among 5 Cubs to advance in All-Star voting
Kris Bryant’s strong start to the 2021 season is putting him in position to be an All-Star Game starter in Denver.
Phase 1 of the All-Star voting results were announced Sunday morning and Bryant led all NL third baseman in voting. The top 3 vote getters at each position (top 9 in the outfield) advanced to Phase 2 which opens on Monday.
Phase 2 of the voting will run from 11 a.m. on Monday until 1 p.m. on Thursday. The top voter at each position — top 3 outfielders — will be named starters in their respective leagues. Vote totals from Phase 1 do not carry over to Phase 2.
Javy Báez was second among NL shortstops behind the Padres’ Fernando Tatis Jr.
Anthony Rizzo finished 3rd at first base behind the Dodgers’ Max Muncy and the Braves’ Freddie Freeman. Willson Contreras was third among catchers behind Buster Posey and Yadier Molina.
Joc Pederson finished 8th among outfielders in the NL.
Fans can vote on MLB platforms with the winners be announced Thursday night.
