Robbie Gould ‘left with more questions’ after Bears’ end-of-season press conference
As the Chicago Bears wrapped up their 2024 season by defeating the Green Bay Packers 24-22 on Sunday in Lambeau Field, the front office spoke to the media on Tuesday recapping the entire season and the future of the franchise.
Bears GM Ryan Poles, team president Kevin Warren and chairman George McCaskey reflected on a number of topics at Halas Hall. As former Bears kicker Robbie Gould reacted on Bears Den, he didn’t hear a lot of answers being addressed from the Bears brass.
“To me, I left with more questions. I left with: this is the same situation. If you hear, they were using an external resource like they normally would do in hiring a former GM to come in and help them figure out what they want to do and how they want that to look,” Gould said reacting to the press conference on Bears Den. “I do think that the process is unique. I do think that when you are hiring a head coach that is going to have accountability, they didn’t have that. You’re looking for game situation managers. They hire a guy in the building to do statistics and analytics for those exact reasons to help on gameday. You also put it in your system when you practice throughout June and July even in your meetings so you don’t lose games. I’ll say 70% of most NFL games come down to one score.”
Poles was given a vote of confidence to lead the charge in finding the Bears new head coach.
As the Bears enter an important offseason, there’s a lot of pressure riding on Poles. During his 3 seasons, the Bears are 15-36 which ranks 2nd worst in the NFL.
“Let’s just start with his [Poles] beginning tenure. He said he was going to take back the North, we haven’t done that. He’s going to find a foundation of what we’re going to have as a team in Year 3 and I think there was a lot of positivity coming into this season with the additions that he made and what they did in the draft. That didn’t go as well because of some of the coaching hires that happened,” Gould said.
