A fairytale wedding: Wrigley Field edition

11 months agoElena Shklyar

To have and to hold, in sickness and health, in Cubs remarkable wins and devastating losses, Jeff and Kathryn McGlynn vow to stand by each other forever.

In a dream wedding for those who bleed Cubbie blue, the McGlynn’s decided to tie the knot at one of their favorite places: Wrigley Field.

“We wanted something unique so we just ran with it,” said Jeff. “[It was the] best day of my life, happiest day of my life.”

The lovebirds got married in a suite at Wrigley Field while fans piled into the stands prior to a 1:20 p.m. game against the Cincinnati Reds on Sunday, May 28th.

“It’s just fun because it shows who we are and that we like to have fun,” said Kathryn. “I think getting married at Wrigley is part of that. We get to celebrate and have a different type of wedding with all of our friends and family.”

The couple is no stranger to the “Friendly Confines”, having gone on numerous dates to watch the Cubs play.

Their proposal was even Cubs related, as Jeff dressed up as the mascot Clark the Cub when he got down on one knee.

“I was planning it for about four months and keeping it from her was not easy,” said Jeff. “I had her believing it was a surprise party for a friend of ours.”

“They came out with a cake, I saw Clark the Cub coming out and I was laughing so hard,” said Kathryn. “I was thinking it’s either him in that costume or here I am, in my 40s having Clark the Cub at my birthday party.”

“Once he finally took off the hat and got down on one knee, I finally realized it was a double surprise.”

Shortly after the proposal came the decision of where the wedding would take place.

“First, we were talking about a small destination wedding, that sort of thing,” said Kathryn. “One time we were talking on the phone, and he goes what about Wrigley Field?”

“He just sort of threw it out there, I think he was half joking, maybe not, but that was all I needed was the suggestion.”

That suggestion was more than enough to convince Kathryn to plan their special day at the historic ballpark.

“I was like, I don’t know if you can get married on the field but let me see what the options are,” said Kathryn. “I reached out to my season ticket representative, and she pointed me in the right direction.”

Jeff even reached out multiple times about throwing the first pitch in an effort to make the day even more unique.

“They came back with: ‘thank you for your constant emails, phone calls and texts but we already got somebody,’” said Jeff. “But you could deliver the game ball to the mound.”

Following their ceremony, the newlyweds walked onto the field to place the game ball on the mound prior to first pitch.

The love for the Cubs doesn’t stop after the wedding for the McGlynn’s. Their honeymoon will include watching the team play in London at the end of June.

“The trip we had started planning before we had got engaged might have included ending at the Cubs and Cardinals game in London,” said Kathryn. “So, the honeymoon actually ends there.”
