Marquee Sports Network is proud to partner with the Chicago Public League to recognize a high school athlete of the week throughout the preps season, presented by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois. See below for the winners!

2023-24 ATHLETE OF THE WEEK WINNERS

I’Marion Stewart | Class of 2024

A senior wide receiver at Kenwood Academy, I’Marion had a key 57-yard punt return for a touchdown in Kenwood’s 26-19 win over Whitney Young, clinching the CPL City Championship and a spot in the Marquee Sports Network Chicago Prep Bowl.

Jada Marrero | Class of 2025

A junior guard on the Lake View girls basketball team, Jada led the Wildcats to a 3-0 mark in the North Shore Country Day Thanksgiving Tournament, including a team-high 30 points in the final game.

Mako Grant | Class of 2024

A senior football student-athlete at Kenwood Academy, Mako was a standout on both sides of the ball in the Chicago Public League semifinals, recording 212 rushing yards and two touchdowns, along with an interception and five tackles, as the Broncos cruised past Phillips, 31-6.

Isabella Chow | Class of 2025

A junior swimmer at Whitney Young Magnet High School, Isabella broke CPL City Championship records in the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard butterfly, leading the Dolphins to their first city title since 2018. Isabella went on to place third in the 100-yard butterfly at the IHSA State Championships.

Anthony Hood | Class of 2024

A senior captain for the Whitney Young football team, Anthony made his quarterback debut in the Dolphins’ 35-13 victory over Taft High School. Anthony rushed for two touchdowns to help lead the team into the CPL City Playoff semifinals.

Alaina Valmassei | Class of 2025

A junior quarterback at Lane Tech College Prep, Alaina earned MVP honors in the Chicago Bears State Championship Girls Flag Football Series Final on October 29, throwing five touchdown passes in a victory against Phillips High School — capping a storybook 21-1 season and the school’s first-ever CPL Girls Flag Football City Championship Title.

Marcus Thaxton | Class of 2025

A junior quarterback at Morgan Park High School, Thaxton had a dominating performance in the first round of the IHSA Class 5A playoffs on October 28, passing for 3 touchdowns and rushing for another touchdown in the school’s 34-12 win over Chicago Corliss Co-Op.

Simona LaGiglio | Class of 2025

A junior outside hitter on the Jones College Prep High School volleyball team, LaGiglio turned in a championship effort on October 19, delivering 7 kills in the CPL Girls Volleyball City Championship. LaGiglio notched several key points in the 2-set victory over defending champion Whitney Young — delivering the school’s first city championship since 2017.

Lawrence Benson | Class of 2026

A sophomore running back at Sullivan High School, Benson rushed for 159 yards and 2 touchdowns in an 18-15 victory over Mather High School on October 12. Benson is a two-sport athlete, also competing on the Sullivan track team.

Lucia Ton-That | Class of 2025

A three-sport athlete at Northside College Prep High School, Lulu won the 3-mile individual championship race in the Chicago Public League Cross Country City Finals on October 14. In addition to cross country, Lulu also participates on the gymnastics and track teams.
