Former Cubs pitcher Kyle Hendricks sets milestone, earns 100th career win

1 week agoJack McDonaugh

Kyle Hendricks, former Cubs starting pitcher and 2016 World Series champion, notched his 100th career win on Friday night as the Los Angeles Angels defeated the Mariners, 5-4. He becomes one of nineteen active pitchers with 100 wins.

Hendricks pitched for the Cubs from 2014 to 2024, becoming a fan-favorite among the Wrigley Faithful and cementing himself as an organizational legend.

In his 11 seasons with the Cubs, Hendricks accumulated 1,259 strikeouts and a 1.18 WHIP in 1,580.1 innings pitched.

Hendricks notched 97 of his now 100 wins with the Cubs before he signed with the Angels in free agency during the 2025 offseason.

“Do you know how hard that is?” Angels manager Ron Washington told reporters while addressing the milestone. “Thank god he’s a dinosaur, and he’s been after it.”

“It’s hard to do what he did, get 100 wins, it’s really hard,” Washington continued. “The industry itself is not leaving pitchers out there to go deep into games … and to be the class act that he is. I talk about two things: presence and performance. His presence is always around, and when he’s performing, you see him give everything he has.”

It’s high praise from the Angels skipper. Washington echoes everything Hendricks has come to be known for – his amazing attitude and approach, as well as the ability to grind out games.

Although his 2025 campaign is off to a struggling start in terms of ERA (5.40), Hendricks is still proving that he can be effective. The now 35-year-old has struck out 41 batters in 65.0 IP so far this season, and is earning a 1.32 WHIP in 2025.

He may not be in the Cubs’ pinstripes, but Cubs fans will certainly be happy to see Hendricks reach a milestone that they were integral in helping produce throughout the years.
