Cubs troll Pete Crow-Armstrong over hilarious outfield dive vs. Giants

2 weeks agoJack McDonaugh

During another dominating Cubs offensive performance Monday night, Pete Crow-Armstrong attempted to make a diving play.

However, things didn’t quite pan out for the electric center fielder. In fact, he attempted to make the catch at a comically large distance.

Before Tuesday night’s game, Dansby Swanson and fellow Cubs teammates made sure Crow-Armstrong would not forget about how absurd the attempted catch ended up looking from the fans’ view.

Swanson and Co. placed a perfectly timed screenshot in Crow-Armstrong’s locker as a friendly reminder to the rising young star.

“It’s a screenshot of me thinking I was as tall as Victor Wembanyama,” Crow-Armstrong told Elise Menaker in an exclusive interview.

If there’s one word to describe the Cubs center fielder, it’d probably be “showman.”

He is always entertaining for fans, whether it’s hitting a homer, making an improbable catch look routine or creating chaos on the bases.

“I thought I could make some sort of an effort – a little ‘show-me’ dive,” Crow-Armstrong joked.

After the dive, some Cubs fans were letting him hear it and he responded in classic Crow-Armstrong fashion. The center fielder turned to give a bow to the Wrigley faithful in the center-field bleachers.

“That was pretty comical. That was probably gonna be the one and only time I do that … I’m glad I could get a laugh out of some people,” Crow-Armstrong said.

Now, Crow-Armstrong might not boast the 7-foot-3 frame of NBA star Victor Wembanyama, but he certainly thinks every ball could and should be his. That mindset has been in full effect since making his debut for the Cubs late in 2023.

“I got Golden Retriever-ish, where I just wanted the ball,” Crow-Armstrong said.

That mentality is something that makes him a one-of-one center fielder and covers absurd amounts of distance in the outfield regularly.

On a serious note, when asked if there was a ball he doesn’t think he could catch, Crow-Armstrong responded, “I have that delusion that every ball is mine. That’s part of taking pride in your job defensively.”

“I want every ball, that’s as simple as that. I think that’s how I grew up being a center fielder, and that’s how I hope to continue to be,” Crow-Armstrong continued.

For a young talent with plenty of confidence, it’s not a surprising response. One of Crow-Armstrong’s defensive goals for this season is adding some Gold Glove hardware to his cabinet – something he may be on his way to accomplishing.
