Cubs activate Ryan Brasier from IL, option Ethan Roberts to Triple-A

4 weeks agoKyle Millinowisch

The Cubs announced Friday afternoon that right-handed pitcher Ryan Brasier was activated from the 15-day IL. In a corresponding move, Ethan Roberts was optioned to Triple-A.

Brasier was acquired by the Cubs in February from the Los Angeles Dodgers. He was placed on the 15-day IL with a left groin strain after only one regular-season appearance, after he faced the Dodgers during the Tokyo Series.

In 2024, Brasier posted a 3.54 ERA over 29 regular-season games with the World Series champions. He appeared in 8 postseason games for the Dodgers during their title run, tossing 9.0 innings and allowing five earned runs.

Chicago is looking for Brasier to bring stability to the bullpen, which currently ranks 19th in the league with a 4.23 ERA. The relief corps has been better in the past month, posting a 3.33 ERA in May, 11th best in MLB.

Ethan Roberts, who was sent down for Brasier, has a 5.40 ERA for the Cubs in 9 appearances this season. He was recalled from Triple-A earlier this week as Porter Hodge was placed on the 15-day IL but did not pitch in a game.
