Chicago Fire announce new stadium plan in South Loop, to open in 2028

The Chicago Fire announced Tuesday that the club would build a “privately funded, soccer-specific stadium” in the South Loop that will be open in the spring of 2028.
Joe Manuseto, owner and chairman of the Chicago Fire, wrote a letter detailing the specifics and decision-making about the MLS club’s new stadium.
The Fire’s new stadium is planned for an entertainment district at Roosevelt and the river, according to Manuseto’s letter. It’s a prime Chicago neighborhood that had many suitors eyeing it at one point or another, but the Fire will be the first to take advantage of the location. The new “78th neighborhood” is near four CTA lines and a Metra station, making it easily accessible for all.
It’s a significant step for the club, and the city, as soccer and MLS are growing in popularity across the country.
“The Chicago Fire is a Club on the rise,” Manuseto wrote. “And soon, we’ll have a permanent home that reflects the passion, energy and pride of the city we love.”
With superstars such as Lionel Messi and Lorenzo Insigne joining the league in recent years, the MLS continues to attract and grow fans of the world’s game.
The Fire currently plays at Soldier Field as its primary venue and reserves SeatGeek Stadium in Bridgeview for matches when there are conflicts with the NFL’s Chicago Bears and their schedule.
In contrast to other Chicago franchises anticipating and attempting a move from their current stadiums, the Fire are building their new stadium through private funding
With this new stadium, die-hard and casual fans will get to experience a new, invigorated sports and social match day. In addition to the match-day experience, the stadium will provide thousands of jobs, housing, business opportunities and many other impacts that a new stadium has on a neighborhood.
“It’s a space for fans of all ages, backgrounds and neighborhoods to come together and celebrate the beautiful game — right in the heart of our city,” Manuseto wrote.
The Fire currently sit at 6-5-4 through the league’s first 15 games. They’ll face D.C. United on Saturday, with excitement about their future in mind.
