Chicago native Doc Rivers joins Chris & Tell
Chris Myers welcomes Chicago native, and current Philadelphia 76ers head coach, Doc Rivers on Chris & Tell presented by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois, airing tonight at 7 p.m. on Marquee Sports Network.
Rivers graduated from Proviso East High School near Chicago where he was a McDonald’s All-American, before attending Marquette University. He was a second-round draft pick by the Atlanta Hawks, beginning a 13-season NBA career. Upon retirement, Rivers moved into coaching and has been an NBA head coach for more than 20 seasons with the Orlando Magic (1999-2003), Boston Celtics (2004-13), Los Angeles Clippers (2013-20) and 76ers (2020-present).
On tonight’s show, Myers sits down with Rivers to discuss his upbringing in Chicago and the inspiration of his father, who was the first Black lieutenant in the Chicago police force. Then, they discuss his career as an NBA coach, including his reaction as then Clippers head coach to the comments of former Clippers owner Donald Sterling, and the culture of building a consistent winner.
