Cubs 360 Daily: Losing leverage with Kris Bryant

4 years agoStaff Report

Tony Andracki, Bruce Levine and Carlos Peña joined host Cole Wright on Cubs 360 Daily, presented by Miller Lite to discuss the possibility of the Cubs losing leverage with Kris Bryant during this season.

Andracki believes the Cubs could turn this into a positive:

“I think this is really good for the Cubs because in so many ways, this shut down means that they might be able to just go for it again in 2021; before Bryant becomes a free agent, before some of these other guys — [Anthony] Rizzo and Javy [Báez] — their contracts expire.”

Levine felt it’s not a good thing and believed it could be similar to another recent scenario with a superstar:

“They’re going to be in the same situation that the Red Sox were in this year with Mookie Betts, and that is you take what you can get. But they have bigger problems because all those guys are going to be in the same situation. Báez is going to be in that siuation. Rizzo is going to be that situation. Schwarber is going to be in that situation. So, I think this is a leverage loss for the Chicago Cubs.”
