9 months agoAndy Martinez

The Cubs announced on Friday that they agreed to terms with nine of their 2024 draft selections.

The most prominent was 4th-round pick, infielder Ty Southisene, a high school infielder from Basic High School in Nevada.

With the nine signings, the Cubs have agreed to terms with 19 of their 20 selections from this month’s draft.

In 116 plate appearances, Southisene hit .495 with a 1.265 OPS, 11 doubles, 3 triples, a home run and 20 stolen bases in his senior season. He was the no. 1 prospect in Nevada by PerfectGame and had committed to the University of Tennessee, who had won this year’s College World Series.

Beyond Southisene, the Cubs signed their 11th-round pick, outfielder Eli Lovich, 13th-round pick LHP Evan Aschebeck, 14th-round pick 1B Cameron Sisneros, 15th-round pick LHP Hayden Frank, 16th-round pick LHP Christian Gordon, 18th-round pick RHP Thomas Mangus, 19th-round pick catcher Owen Ayers and 20th-round pick RHP Brayden Risedorph.

Only 17th-round pick Ben Johnson, a right-handed pitcher out of Georgia Southern, remains unsigned.

Lovich hit .402 with a 1.245 OPS for Blue Valley West High School in Kansas and had committed to play at the University of Arkansas. He was one of the more intriguing players the Cubs took.

Aschenbeck led the SEC in saves, amassing 10 for Texas A&M and helping them reach the finals of the College World Series. He had 87 strikeouts in 75.2 innings and a 1.78 ERA.

Sisneros was the Southern Conference player of the year at East Tennessee State, hitting .369 with 23 home runs, 16 doubles and 86 RBI. He set a single-season school record in RBI for the Buccaneers.

Last weekend, the Cubs came to terms with 10 players, including 1st-round pick, infielder Cam Smith and 2nd-round pick, infielder Cole Mathis.
