Cubs announce front office promotions, including Jeff Greenberg and Craig Breslow as assistant GMs

When he was introduced as the new president of baseball operations last week, Jed Hoyer alluded to rewarding some long-standing front office members with promotions.

He kept to that promise on Monday.

The Cubs announced several promotions within their front office on Monday, highlighted by the promotions of Jeff Greenberg to assistant general manager and Craig Breslow to assistant general manager/vice president, pitching.

“We have a lot of great employees here, people who have been working extra hard during the last month and during this transition,” Hoyer said at his introductory press conference last week.

Greenberg joined the Cubs organization in 2012 and served as assistant to the general manager prior to 2015. He was promoted to director of baseball operations in 2018 and added the role of director of pro scouting in 2019. He was elevated to the role of assistant general manager this past year and 2021 will be his first full season in the role.

Breslow joined the Cubs in 2019 as the director of strategic initiatives and in 2020 was named director, pitching/special assistant to the president and general manager. Breslow pitched in 12 MLB seasons and won the 2013 World Series with the Red Sox.

The Cubs promoted Chris Moore to vice president, research and development. He joined the club in 2013 as director of research and development. He is responsible for the development and overseeing the research and analytics functions in the baseball operations department.

Additionally, the Cubs had 11 other personnel see role changes within their front office:

Matt Dorey – vice president, player development (previously senior director of player development)

Louie Eljuaua – vice president, international scouting (previously director of international operations/special assistant to the president and general manager)

Nate Halm – pro personnel specialist (previously assistant director, advance scouting – run production and handling as the team’s in-game video replay reviews)

Alex Suarez – senior director, international player development and operations (previously director of international pro scouting)

Andrew Bassett — director, pro scouting (previously assistant director, pro scouting)

Greg Davey — director, baseball operations (previously assistant director, baseball operations)

Jeremy Greenhouse — director, strategic modeling in the Cubs’ research and development team (previously assistant director, research and development)

Gian Guzman — director, Dominican Republic scouting operations/international crosschecker (previously international crosschecker)

Meghan Jones — assistant director, baseball operations administration and strategic initiatives (previously manager, baseball operations administration)

Garrett Chiado — senior player evaluation analyst, research and development (previously analyst, research and development)

Adam Unes — coordinator, minor league operations (previously assistant, amateur scouting)

Alex Smith — coordinator, major league data and development (previously, coordinator, baseball operations)

Jackson New-Smith — assistant, baseball operations (previously baseball operations trainee)
