Cubs shut out Royals in Cactus League action

Javier Báez crushed his first home run of the spring as the Cubs blanked the Royals 8-0 in Cactus League play at Sloan Park. Báez finished 2-for-3 in the victory. 

Kyle Hendricks made his spring debut, pitching two shutout innings, allowing one hit and striking out one. 

The Cubs improved to 3-2 in the Cactus League and will travel to Surprise on Thursday to play the Rangers. Here’s more highlights from the day: 

  • Taylor McGregor caught up with Báez to talk about his performance and spring
  • P.J. Higgins continued a strong spring for catcher by making a strong defensive play
  • Third base coach Will Venable was mic’d up during the win
  • Mike Borzello spent a half inning with Len Kasper and Jim Deshaies to talk about the team and his movie career
  • McGregor stepped into the batter’s box and faced off against Clark the Cub
