Cubs-Mets washed out by weather, doubleheader set for Saturday at Wrigley

2 years agoTony Andracki

The Cubs and Mets were postponed Friday afternoon at Wrigley Field due to the rainy forecast.

The two teams will meet up for a doubleheader Saturday at Wrigley Field. The first game will take place at 1:20 with the nightcap beginning at 7:05 p.m.

This is the Mets’ only trip into town this season. They beat the Cubs in the series opener Thursday evening by an 8-0 score.

Marcus Stroman was set to toe the rubber for Friday’s game against his former team. The veteran right-hander pitched for the Mets in 2019 and 2021, putting up a 3.21 ERA in 44 starts. He will start Game 1 with Drew Smyly taking the ball for Game 2.

Both Smyly and Stroman were activated off the IL last weekend in Los Angeles.

Stroman is 2-5 with a 4.91 ERA and 1.19 WHIP in 10 starts this year. He has been on the IL twice — first with a bout of COVID-19 in May and then with a shoulder injury in early June that cost him over a month.

The Cubs’ first half schedule wraps up Sunday afternoon against the Mets before four days off during the All-Star Break.
