Cubs mourn passing of former pitcher Ken Holtzman
Former Cubs southpaw Ken Holtzman passed away recently at the age of 78.
Holtzman spent 15 years pitching in the big leagues, including 9 seasons with the Chicago Cubs from 1965-71 and then again from 1978-79.
He attended UIC and University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he was drafted by the Cubs in the 4th round in 1965.

Ken was a Cub from 1965-1971 and 1978-1979. He posted a 3.76 ERA in 237 games with the club, including two no-hitters, cementing himself as one of the best left-handed pitchers in Cubs history.

Holtzman is most known for his pair of no-hitters — first against the Braves in August 1969 and then against the Reds in June 1971.
In total, Holtzman was 80-81 with a 3.76 ERA in a Cubs uniform, making 209 starts and 28 relief appearances.
He also pitched for the Oakland A’s, Baltimore Orioles and New York Yankees, winning 4 World Series in his career — 3 with the A’s (1972-74) and then in 1977 with the Yankees.
