Christopher Morel is back.

The Cubs recalled the versatile right-handed hitter on Monday afternoon and optioned outfielder Nelson Velázquez to Triple-A Iowa.Morel started the year with Iowa and made the most of his regular at-bats and playing time. In 134 plate appearances, Morel slashed .330/.425/.730 with a whopping 184 weighted runs created plus. He added 11 home runs and 31 RBI.The Cubs optioned him to Iowa to start the year in order for him to have everyday at-bats and playing time, something they couldn’t promise to him when the team broke camp. After his recall, Morel will likely serve as the team’s ultra-utility player, much like he did last year, playing across the outfield and at third base when needed.Velázquez will return to Iowa with the expectation of getting more consistent playing time than he got at the big-league level. He is 7-for-29 to start the season in the bigs, with 2 doubles and 3 home runs.
