Cubs reshuffle front office
The Cubs have made some changes to their front office.
The team is moving Jared Banner to an assistant general manager role, sources confirmed to Marquee Sports Network Tuesday afternoon. Banner will work under GM Carter Hawkins and president of baseball operations Jed Hoyer.
Banner had been the vice president of player development for the last two years after serving in a different role (vice president of special projects) for the 2021 season.
Banner fills a hole in the Cubs front office after Craig Breslow left to head up the Red Sox baseball operations.
Breslow had been the assistant GM and VP of pitching with the Cubs in recent years.
The Cubs will also look to hire a new farm director to backfill Banner’s former role.
Banner has overseen a Cubs system that has ascended to one of the best in the game.
FanGraphs rated the Cubs as the No. 1 farm system while MLB Pipeline pegged the Cubs as 4th in the league. Bleacher Report also had the Cubs at No. 2.
