Cubs set to renovate Sloan Park complex in Arizona
The state of the art spring training facility of the Cubs will undergo a few upgrades, per the Chicago Tribune.
In a recent Mesa city council meeting, $16 million in funding was approved to add new features to the facility – including a new performance hitting and pitching lab, a women’s locker room and other technology to help increase player performance.
“Our relationship here …. they know what (Sloan Park) does for Mesa, and (the city of Mesa has) been incredibly good partners,” Cubs president of business operations Crane Kenney said in an interview with the Tribune.

Renovations are expected to begin on March 30, less than a week after the Cubs play their final spring training game at the complex on March 25 against the Atlanta Braves.
Sloan Park, which holds roughly 15,000 fans, opened in 2014 and is widely considered one of the nicest spring training venues in Major League Baseball. In 2023 the Cubs broke the single-game Cactus League attendance record in a game against the Giants, hosting 16,152 fans.
Although many fans only see Sloan Park on game days, the facility offers much more to get players in shape – including multiple baseball fields, a weight room and indoor batting cages.

While the Cubs are the primary attraction for Sloan Park during the spring time, the facility is also host to youth tournaments and minor league baseball games during the Arizona Fall League. Cubs players often will rehab injuries during the regular season in Arizona, using the Sloan Park facilities. Fans may remember Kyle Schwarber rehabbing in the Arizona Fall League – with much of the work done at Sloan Park – in 2016 to play in the World Series following his ACL tear earlier in the season.
