Cubs stay active in trade market, make minor deal with White Sox
On what was an already eventful day for the Cubs, they pulled off another — albeit minor — trade on Tuesday night.
The team announced they had traded catcher Matt Thaiss to the White Sox for cash considerations.
Thaiss, 29, was acquired in a trade with the Angles last month after he had been designated for assignment. Thaiss was likely to be surplus catching depth for the Cubs after the team had officially signed Carson Kelly over the weekend. Kelly, 30, figures to compliment Miguel Amaya behind the plate.
The former 1st-round pick, Thaiss was primarily an infielder before converting to backstop.
The move comes on the heels of a busy day for the Cubs. Earlier in the day, the team introduced new outfielder Kyle Tucker, after acquiring him last week in a blockbuster trade with the Astros.
A few hours later, the Cubs traded Cody Bellinger and cash to the Yankees for right-handed pitcher Cody Poteet, another trade from their depth. Later in the afternoon, the Cubs introduced Kelly to the media after his 2-year deal with Chicago.
The Cubs 40-man roster sits at 39 after the flurry of moves.
