Cubs top draft pick begins climb up minor leagues

The Cubs’ top draft pick, Cam Smith, has officially been placed on an affiliate’s roster.
Smith was the 14th overall pick in last month’s MLB Draft and will head to Low-A Myrtle Beach:
The Pelicans’ game was rained out Tuesday night as Hurricane Debby hits the East Coast.

The Pelicans were supposed to play the Down East Wood Ducks in North Carolina but the weather has altered plans, meaning it is currently unknown when Smith will make his affiliate debut.
Smith is a third baseman out of Florida State University. The 21-year-old hit .387 with 16 homers, 57 RBI and a 1.142 OPS in 66 games with the Seminoles.
