Cubs top draft pick Cam Smith continues to make history in debut season

4 weeks agoAndy Martinez

Cam Smith continues to make pro ball look like a cakewalk.

The 14th overall pick in last month’s MLB Draft homered for a 5th straight game with Class-A Myrtle Beach, setting a franchise record in the process.

Smith’s blast on Saturday was a no-doubt, solo homer to center field that traveled 432 feet and was hit 103-mph off his bat. It extended Myrtle Beach’s lead to 4 runs in a game they won 4-1 over Charleston.

Over the 5-game stretch, Smith is 10-for-19 (.526) with a .571 on-base percentage and a 1.368 slugging percentage. In 13 games with the Pelicans, Smith is slashing .311/.392/.733 (1.125 OPS) with 5 home runs and 10 RBI.

Smith, 21, is the Cubs’ 8th-ranked prospect, per MLB Pipeline.
