Dansby Swanson had the most wholesome response to watching wife, Mallory, in Olympics

1 month agoAndy Martinez

Dansby Swanson let out a burst of pure joy that sent his dog scurrying to the upstairs of his home.

About 4,500 miles away, his wife Mallory Swanson placed a perfect pass through the German backline to her teammate, Sophia Smith, to score the game-winning goal that would send the U.S. women’s soccer team to the Gold Medal match at the Paris Olympics.

“I about scared the dog off — I did scare the dog off today when they scored,” Dansby Swanson said with a smile after the Cubs’ 7-3 win over the Twins.

For the last two weeks, Dansby Swanson has been glued to every match that Mallory and the U.S. Women’s National Team have competed in. He’s followed with a sense of pride and pure joy.

“I mean, the amount of time she’s pretty much like made me cry over the last like two weeks watching her is like pretty ridiculous. Just so proud of her,” Dansby Swanson said. “The journey, obviously, that she’s been on. Ever since we got here together — I mean it’s like it’s pretty hard to put into words.”

Mallory Swanson’s journey to the Olympic Games is nothing short of remarkable. Just a year ago, she was sitting at home, recuperating from surgery to repair a torn patellar tendon in her left knee and watching her teammates get knocked out in the Round of 16 of the World Cup. It was a gruesome injury, one that required a massive surgery and would not return for a full calendar year to the national team.

It was a journey that showed her resilience.

Now, she’s one win away from claiming her first major international title — an Olympic Gold Medal. And Dansby Swanson will be glued Saturday morning to his TV, wearing his blue, Mallory Swanson jersey watching her chase down a dream.

“God’s done so much for her and is using her in so many beautiful ways and just allowing her to kind of shine his light every time she plays and the people that she comes across and her joy and gratitude is just so, so inspirational,” Dansby Swanson said. “I’m so thankful to be a part of it and to do all that I can to help her from afar. Whatever it is, I’ll do. Man, I could go on for hours about it.

“It’s just so amazing watching obviously the person that you love the most do something that they love and chasing a dream and do it with like the beauty and grace that she does it with is pretty special.
