Dave Roberts goes Off The Mound
Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts joined Ryan Dempster on Off The Mound presented by Sloan on Marquee Sports Network.
Last season, Roberts led the Dodgers to their first World Series Championship in 32 years, becoming just the second Black manager in MLB history to win the World Series, following Cito Gaston’s back-to-back championships with the Blue Jays from 1992-93. Each week this month, Dempster is celebrating Black history, welcoming in a series of distinguished former MLB players and coaches. Following Roberts, Dempster welcomes Hall of Famer and former Cub Andre Dawson on February 19 and current Cubs outfielder Jason Heyward on February 26.
This week, Roberts and Dempster discuss the feeling of relief on finally winning the World Series last year after coming so close in 2017 and 2018, the excitement of receiving a congratulatory call from Cito Gaston and the importance of diversity in the game of baseball.
“To be biracial, it’s something that I do feel it’s something we can better at in our industry as far as having diversity on the player side, the front office, the coaching side,” Roberts said. “This year forced me and our players to come out of our comfort zone to speak up about what’s right.”
