Drew Smyly provides another solid effort for Cubs
Another start, another quality showing from Drew Smyly.
The lefty pitched 4.2 shutout innings to spark the Cubs to a 6-4 win over the Rockies in Denver. Smyly has pitched 9.2 scoreless frames this season, allowing just 7 hits.
He’s just the fourth Cubs pitcher since 1906 to pitch 4 or more shutout innings in his first two outings as a Cub and first since Randy Wells in 2009. His presence has solidified the back of the Cubs rotation in the early part of the season. He stymied a solid Rockies offense in a hitter-friendly environment and helped push the Cubs back over .500 on the season.
