Jason Kipnis reflects on 2016 World Series loss to Cubs
Cubs infielder Jason Kipnis joined Taylor McGregor and host Cole Wright on Cubs 360 Daily to look back at the 2016 World Series when he was a member of the Indians.
No Cubs fan will ever forget the epic night in Cleveland for Game 7 of the World Series. Or the days that led up to that point. The fact the Indians had a 3-1 series lead heading into Game 5, before the Cubs went on the win the last three games of the series, claiming the franchise’s first World Series since 1908.
As for Kipnis, he was the Indians’ starting second baseman when they lost in 2016. For Kipnis, there wasn’t one specific moment when the Cubs stole the momentum from the Indians.
“I wouldn’t say there was an exact turning point,” Kipnis said. “We knew all those guys, those horses were coming back around with (Jon) Lester and Kyle (Hendricks) and Jake [Arrieta]. We knew that this was a hard team to beat once and it’s even harder to beat twice. We had to buckle down and unfortunately, we didn’t get it done.”
