Javy Báez and Nico Hoerner turned one of the smoothest double plays you’ll ever see

4 years agoTony Andracki

In a tight moment in Friday night’s 1-0 win over the Twins, the Cubs middle infield came together for a dazzling double play.

Cubs closer Jeremy Jeffress walked the leadoff batter in the top of the 9th, but induced a groundball from the next hitter, Josh Donaldson.

Nico Hoerner was shifted up the middle and gloved it cleanly and flipped the ball toward the bag like a quarterback leading his receiver. All in one motion, Javy Báez floated toward the base, caught the ball, switched it to his throwing hand and fired a strike to Anthony Rizzo to eliminate the Minnesota rally.
