Jim Callis looks at possible options for Cubs at No. 16 in MLB Draft
MLB Pipeline’s Jim Callis joined Cole Wright on Cubs 360 Daily to look into what the Cubs should focus on with the No. 16 pick in the first round of the 2020 MLB Draft.
Callis jumped right into the high school players for the Cubs.
“I keep coming back to high school position players, specifically Robert Hassell III who’s a high school outfielder from Tennessee who’s probably the best pure high school hitter in the draft,” Callis said. “Austin Hendrick, who’s from Pennsylvania, is probably the best power hitter in the high school draft. Tyler Soderstrom, the son of former big leaguer Steve Soderstrom, he’s a catcher and more of an offensive guy.”
When asked about the changes that the COVID-19 pandemic brought to scouting high school players, Callis gave some interesting insight.
“I do think teams feel like they have a pretty good sense of these guys,” Callis said. “It’s not optimal, but they’re not flying completely blind either.”
