Kyle Tucker recaps Cubs spring training debut, lengthy Nico Hoerner connection

1 month agoMaya Tucker

Kyle Tucker joined the Marquee Sports Network broadcast Sunday as part of the star’s long-awaited spring training debut.

“It was good. Felt pretty comfortable out there,” said Tucker. “The result wasn’t there, but I felt pretty good overall.”

Tucker, who served as the DH for the Cubs, went 0-for-3 in the contest against the Texas Rangers, including a deep flyout in his first plate appearance.

During his time talking with Jon “Boog” Sciambi, Jim Deshaies and Taylor McGregor, Tucker discussed his time playing alongside Nico Hoerner on the USA Baseball 15U National Team in 2012.

“It was pretty fun back then, and I’m excited to be on the same team now with him,” Tucker said.

The left-handed slugger also discussed his comfortability with lefty pitchers, and how playing Wiffle ball with his brother as a kid might have helped.

“He throws lefty, so kinda (contributed to) being at least comfortable against most lefties,” Tucker said. “He wouldn’t let up or anything.”

In his career, Tucker has a .268/.331/.514 slash line against southpaws.

The Cubs’ star spoke with the Marquee Sports Network broadcast booth on a multitude of other topics, including his first time at Cubs Con in January, how he barely missed a 30/30 season in 2023, and more.
