Lee Smith inducted into Chicagoland Sports Hall of Fame
Former Cubs closer Lee Smith has accumulated many accolades in his lifetime and on Wednesday night, he added to that list of achievements.
Smith was inducted into the Chicagoland Sports Hall of Fame, joining a class that included Chicago Bears greats Willie Gault, Brian Urlacher and Dan Neal, Chicago Sky champion Courtney Vandersloot, Blackhawks legend Chris Chelios and Cubs President of Business Operations Crane Kenney, among others.
“Anytime I get a chance to come to Chicago, it’s like coming home,” said Smith, who is also in the Baseball Hall of Fame. “I think if I refused, my wife would probably kill me. So many guys have asked me, ‘Do you miss playing?’ You know what? Yes, I miss playing but it’s the people that you meet.”
On the special night, Smith was surrounded by his family and some of his closest friends.
