Long ball, Jon Lester lead virtual Cubs to win over Diamondbacks

5 years agoStaff Report

Home runs by Kyle Schwarber and Steven Souza Jr. helped support Jon Lester’s strong outing as the virtual Cubs picked up a 4-0 win over the Diamondbacks in our 2020 season simulation on MLB The Show continued. The Cubs improved to 20-14 on the simulated season.

Lester improved to 3-2 on the season after pitching 7.2 shutout innings, allowing 8 hits and a walk and striking out 4.

Schwarber ripped a solo home run, his 10th of the year in the 4th to give the Cubs the lead. Kris Bryant added another run in the 5th, when he grounded out to score Albert Almora Jr. Javy Báez added an RBI double later in the inning and Souza Jr. crushed a no-doubt solo home run in the 6th to cap off the scoring for the Cubs.

Jeremy Jeffress picked up the final four outs in relief for the Cubs who wrap up their series against the Diamondbacks at 1 p.m. on Sunday on our Facebook page. Tyler Chatwood takes the bump for the Cubs in the series finale.
