Matt “Mash” Mervis, Walker Powell named organization Minor League player, pitcher of month
Matt Mervis’ torrid stretch was rewarded Sunday afternoon when he was named the organization’s minor league player of the month. Double-A righty Walker Powell was named the organization’s minor league pitcher of the month.
Mervis, aptly dubbed “Mash” Mervis, did just that in August. He hit .305 with 7 doubles, 4 home runs and 10 RBI in 24 games at Triple-A Iowa. And Mervis celebrated the news with a big Sunday. He was 2-for-3 with his 30th home run of the season and a game-tying 2-RBI single in the 9th against Columbus.
