Meet Nick Gomez, the barber who keeps Cubs players looking fresh on field

2 years agoAndy Martinez

Nick Gomez still remembers the day — June 18, 2004.

It was the day he first entered the home clubhouse at Wrigley Field to clip hair for his hometown team. Gomez was a barber on the city’s North Side and major leaguers from both the White Sox and Cubs would stop at the shop. He built enough trust and relationship with the players that he was asked to come to the Friendly Confines to clip the hair of then-manager Dusty Baker.

He never left.

Gomez has been the Cubs barber since — starting that day in June and continuing today. He’s been there with Kerry Wood, Anthony Rizzo, Christopher Morel and countless others.

He has earned the trust of Cubs players through the years and has gone from cutting hair just outside the showers in the clubhouse to having his own dedicated space in the clubhouse today.
