MLBPA proposal: ‘I think we’re getting pretty close’

4 years agoStaff Report

“I think we’re getting pretty close here.”

Bruce Levine believes that these quick responses between the owners and the players is a good sign that an agreement is right around the corner. Levine, Taylor McGregor and Jim Deshaies discussed the newest proposal from the player’s association.

The MLBPA offered an 89-game schedule, starting on July 10th, with a full prorated share of salaries. The expanded postseason is still in the proposal along with the ability to opt out of playing this season if a player feels their health is at risk.

McGregor believes that we are now closer than ever to baseball coming back in 2020.

“I think [this proposal] gives the owners some wiggle room to potentially negotiate and say ‘ok..let’s work with you a little bit of the things you’re willing to offer and maybe come down off of that full prorata’ and in turn, get some of the things that they negotiated.”
