P.J. Higgins on first MLB home run: ‘A dream come true’
In a day of firsts, P.J. Higgins wanted to add on that list.
In the bottom of the 4th inning, the catcher smacked a solo home run deep to left field for his first career home run, giving the Cubs a 3-2 lead against the Milwaukee Brewers.
“Obviously being able to hit my first major league home run is a dream come true in itself,” Higgins said after the game. “Honestly, the pitch before it was a fastball that I fouled off and in my head I got mad. I was like, ‘just hit the ball on the barrel, put it in play.’ Fortunately I hit the ball on the barrel and put it in play on a nice swing.
“Dream come true to hit a home run in the major leagues, go up by one right there. It was a hard fought game and unfortunately we didn’t come out on top.”
Higgins did get his home run ball back and already has a place ready for it in his home.
“Put it with my first hit, first throw out, try to keep a little collection going on,” Higgins said. “Hopefully there’s more.”
