Jed Hoyer shares Cubs’ desire to sign Pete Crow-Armstrong ‘long term’
Pete Crow-Armstrong‘s breakout 2025 season has re-hashed talk about the budding star possibly signing a contract extension with the Chicago Cubs, and president of operations Jed Hoyer took to the radio Tuesday to set the record straight.
“We think the world of him,” Hoyer told 670 The Score’s “Mully & Haugh Show” on Tuesday morning. “We’d love to sign him long term. Obviously, those conversations in-season are delicate.”

MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand reported April 12 that the Cubs had approached Crow-Armstrong about an extension in the $75 million range, but the parties couldn’t reach an agreement.
“Frankly, having that get out when it did, it wasn’t ideal,” Hoyer said of the news leaking online. “We got through it, but we like to keep those things in-house.”
On the day the news broke, Crow-Armstrong was slashing just .200/.273/.250 with a .523 OPS. He hadn’t hit a single home run yet.
Since then, however, the 23-year-old center fielder has been on quite a hot streak, slashing .320/.338/.719 with 12 homers, 33 RBI and a 1.057 OPS entering Tuesday. Along with his already-elite defense, he’s solidified himself as one of the most valuable players in MLB.
“He’s been remarkable,” Hoyer said. “Right now, he’s beating (opponents) in so many different ways.”
Hoyer endorsed the popular comparison between Crow-Armstrong and former Cubs star Javier Baez, who was well-known for his similar flair and skillset during his Chicago tenure.
“When Javy (Baez) was at his prime in 2018 or so, there’s a lot of ways he can help you win a game on a given night,” Hoyer said. “It might be with his glove, it might be with great baserunning, it might be with power.”
Hoyer reiterated the Cubs want to continue extension talks with Crow-Armstrong, who will not be arbitration eligible until 2027 or a free agent until 2031.
“It’s something that I’m sure at some point, we will revisit,” Hoyer said. “But right now, we’re letting him focus on the season.”
