Pete Crow-Armstrong sets his sights on lofty goals with Cubs in 2025

With the departure of Cody Bellinger this offseason, center field now belongs solely to Pete Crow-Armstrong in 2025.

While there were plenty of highlight-worthy plays last season, there was also a learning curve for the young Cubs outfielder.

“It’s important for me not to go make the play if I don’t have to. I did that a lot last year where I got in Ian’s grill and made stuff overcomplicated,” Crow-Armstrong said in an exclusive interview with Cole Wright.

That’s what learning and training is for, along with having some help from the coaching staff in Quintin Berry and Jose Javier (who are both new to the Cubs this season). Crow-Armstrong also learned through game action and playing alongside some elite-level outfielders like Bellinger and Ian Happ (who has won 3 straight Gold Gloves in left field).

Now with some MLB time under his belt along with his own training, Crow-Armstrong has set some high goals this season for himself and his team.

“I’d love to be in the Gold Glove conversation again. The whole middle of the field is Gold, and I want to make it 5,” Crow-Armstrong said. “I think that’s a goal I’ve had for a long time as I’ve taken more pride in defense. I’m in a very good National League group of center fielders so that just adds to the excitement of shooting for that goal.

“If we’re talking important goals, I want to be a part of this team and play in October. We got every capability, every opportunity to do so.”

The Cubs start their journey towards that goal with their first spring training game which is set for Feb. 20 against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
