Pete Crow-Armstrong’s heads-up play helped Cubs steal a crucial run against Cardinals
Pete Crow-Armstrong may still be a rookie but his baseball IQ helped steal his team a run Sunday night against the Cardinals.
And it was a crucial run at that – tying the game at 2 in the bottom of the 4th inning.
After Dansby Swanson drove in a run with a groundout, Crow-Armstrong came up with 2 outs and a runner on third base.
As Cardinals starter Miles Mikolas was set to deliver a pitch to Crow-Armstrong, the Cubs’ 22-year-old center fielder helped alert home plate umpire Clint Vondrak of a balk:
Mikolas improperly disengaged the rubber on the mound and the Cubs were gifted the game-tying run.

Crow-Armstrong eventually popped out but overall it was a good 8-pitch at-bat.
And as the Cubs look to claim the 4-game series victory over the Cardinals, it proved to be a pivotal play.
