PHOTOS: Cubs take in the ‘magic’ of Field of Dreams

2 years agoStaff Report

DYERSVILLE, Iowa – The Cubs had a couple of simple goals for the second annual Field of Dreams game in Iowa:

1. Win
2. Enjoy the moment

They succeeded in both areas Thursday evening.

The Cubs rode a 3-run, 2-out 1st-inning rally to a 4-2 victory while Drew Smyly dominated on the mound (9 strikeouts in 5 innings).

Throughout the day, the Cubs stopped to smell the roses…or in this case, corn.

They knew they had to take care of their business but it also was a day of fun and celebrating the spirit of baseball, family and nostalgia.

“I think this place is really magic,” Willson Contreras said. “It has some kind of energy that I think is real. It makes me think of the old school baseball a lot.

“I’m really thankful that I’m here spending time with my teammates and getting to know a little more about Field of Dreams.”
