Reunited at last: Kiermaier brothers’ paths cross at Wrigley Field

2 years ago • Staff Report

“We’ll be soaking in this moment for the next couple of days”

With the Tampa Bay Rays in town, there’s also a family reunion.

Chicago Cubs head groundskeeper Dan Kiermaier and his brother, Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Kevin Kiermaier, shared their love of baseball from a young age in Fort Wayne, Ind. For the first time, the two brothers will be on the same field. Kevin has played at Wrigley Field in 2014, but that was before Dan was hired by the Cubs.

The Rays were here in 2017 as well, but Kevin was unable to play due to injury at the time. They were scheduled to play in 2020 before the COVID-19 pandemic shortened the MLB season.

“It seemed like the baseball gods didn’t want me here, but 2022 is here now,” Kevin said. “I’m here playing on his field. I’m so proud and I’m so excited of all he’s done.”
