Roster updates: Cubs make series of moves at non-tender deadline
The Cubs made a series of moves Tuesday evening ahead of MLB’s non-tender deadline.
The organization tendered Willson Contreras and Ian Happ contracts, both of whom are eligible for arbitration. In addition, the Cubs also tendered contracts to 28 other pre-arbitration players.
Meanwhile, the team opted to part ways with relief pitcher Jason Adam and outfielder Michael Hermosillo, non-tendering both players.
Contreras is in his final year of team control while Happ is in his second year of arbitration.
Adam, 30, made 25 appearances out of the Cubs bullpen over the last two seasons, striking out 40 batters in 24.1 innings. He overcame a horrific ankle injury in May to make a miraculous return to the mound late in the regular season.
Hermosillo, 26, is a native of Ottawa, Ill., and quickly endeared himself to his hometown fanbase. He hit 3 homers and posted a .737 OPS in 16 games before a forearm injury cost him in the final few weeks of 2021.
The Cubs’ 40-man roster now sits at 35 players.
